Yesterday the Queen sat front row at London Fashion Week only a few weeks after the Paris Lingerie show.

The headlines showed the Queen relaxed and smiling. Her Majesty viewed Richard Quinn’s runway show alongside Dame Anna Wintour.  Richard is the first recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design

Earlier on in the day I discovered on my mums computer two things that my grandfather had received a #distinguishedorderofservice by the King in 1941 in the UK and the letter that was sent confirming that Harlette selected for costume as part of the secret diary of a call girl show.

Only a few weeks ago I was front row in Paris at the Lingerie Show, using a Microsoft phone and Microsoft Surface I have uploaded some video’s on twitter of the view from front row.

I  also visited the place where the very first bikini made its 1st debut in the world in 1946 at the art deco pool in Paris and filmed during the evening and the morning

Before the end of the year I also I had the opportunity to meet George Osborne and hear his most amazing story on Graphene and how he helped the UK be very forward thinking. George then made a bold move with nobel peace prize winners, to establish a National Centre for Graphene in Manchester and inviting the Chinese president Xi Jinping to UK to Manchester. What an amazing story

More on this later as you know Harlette is testing this amazing material in Sweden, thanks  to some amazing people in Texas to develop new products for the company combining tech with fashion.

7 Cities in 7 Days

A few weeks ago  I woke up to a rainy Lake Geneva. Amazing experience to have the opportunity to observe a United Nations International Telecommunications Union meeting on one of my favourite topics space.

As well as designing swimwear and lingerie have commenced a PhD and designing a new out of this world project combining fashion & technology that is a little secret squirrel more soon.

Travelling from a university in London to a university in Manchester at the other side of the country and back to London all in the same day was an awfully big adventure.

You can see the seven cities in seven days photo’s on Harlette Swimwear new flickr site and you will also spot beaches in Australia like Shelly Beach, a personal favourite and the spectacular Surfers Paradise with the symphony of high rises.

Where, when I touched down in LAX, discovered I left my voice on a virgin train. Sunrise in London Hyde Park with swans & squirrels to finish the day watching  the sunset over Santa Monica beach before meeting with the director of my 4K TV project IT Girl Lingerie to discuss the project, story and new things in Geneva & UK.

Executive Producers that are interested in assisting this project are most welcome to reach out.

Final touch down in Sydney to start new swimwear collection and this new one is going to be really fun to frolic in and on. Of course what a shock was Leonard Cohen, I heard his new song Leaving the Table as I was in a good old trusted black cab outside Buckingham Palace on the way to the university. With the benefit of hindsight its a little prophetic this song.

I was listening to his new album You Want it Darker the whole week, while glued to Bloomberg for US Election updates & the markets reaction and then suddenly the news that he passed away, on remembrance day at 82 after he saw the new President elect Donald Trump come to power. The night before I saw the Opera House covered in poppies and the video is available at Harlette Swimwear new flickr site

Donald Trump no doubt he is 100% #teambikini & excited that Red is the colour of 2017. Having worked with Miss Universes in our shoots & catwalks Harlette Swimwear are excited at seeing Donald work to make America great again.

Exciting times ahead for the whole world and infinitely more exciting with a bikini or two.

Happy New Year wishing you a year of Harmony from Harlette

Posted in Art, France, New Year, Norway, Paris, Sydney, United Kingdom with tags , on January 7, 2015 by harlette

One thing the world agrees on a midnight new years eve moving into the first moments of New Years day is Unity.

Then we forget and move into our fluffy slippers, newspapers, box sets, Netflix, isolation, nationalism, ideology, philosophy or just plain worry, tiredness, forgetfulness and fear.

One of the best quotes from house of cards

Harmony that’s the word that’s stuck in my mind, its not about what’s lasting or permanent, it’s about individual voices coming together for a moment … and that moment lasts the length of a breath…

That’s what I think of at New Year and how I can bring more of this into the rest of the year

Want greater harmony and balance with someone very special, remember the four T’s – tact, timing, trust &  (a tiny bit of ) telepathy

Starting with Oslo, Paris, Ho Chi Min City, London and Sydney.. all the cities that I have had the privilege of collecting ideas and meeting wonderful people during 2014

The Art of Courtship : Reflections from Hampton Court Palace

Posted in Engagement, Love, United Kingdom with tags , , , , , , , , , on September 6, 2014 by harlette

As I wondered around Hampton Court Palace the other day, I got a vague feeling of Déjà vu, it reminded me so much of Versailles that I had to enquire if it was built before or after . In deed the wing I was in was built after and was modelled after Versailles. Nothing like knowing your palaces perspectives. As I wandered further, the idea of courtship came to mind. I pondered a little more on the idea has the art of courtship been lost?

How does modern love measure up against the monumental love of Henry the 8th, the master of courtship his conquests legendary, his loves fatal for those that wane. Do we love like we used to, or has digital destroyed the art of courtship. I have been reading interviews conducted by askmen on their Tinder Flames, after a few flirtations most run from it like a bad movie, and most believe that women on this site will be far easier to close the deal and require much less work required, than meeting someone not online. Interesting statistics.

Boys will be Boys and Stags will be Stags. Now imagine for a second King Henry 8th the master of courtship set loose to attend to courtship via tinder. How exactly would a stag with such stature set himself apart from the fated destiny of being just another set of Antlers on the Wall

Would Henry sit as his desk to write the profile

His opening line

I promise to take you as my Sole Mistress and to serve you only by the hand of him which I trust shortly shall be yours Henry R

What he is looking for

She is religious and as virtuous as words can express

Then the profile picture

stare at the ceiling

take a little bath and wait for the clicks to come in

On second thoughts maybe change the profile picture to this

Maybe a little walk around the grounds taking council and advised that music is the way to a women’s heart and comfortable sheets

So Henry puts a little Maroon 5 Moves like Jagger to his profile and changes profile pic to 4 poster Kings bed chamber

Henry knew a thing or too about love about courtship and maybe he would begin to ask the question over dinner

Is this good for a man’s soul. To work hard all week and then rest easy in love?

Courtship is the period in a couple’s relationship which precedes their engagement and marriage or establishment of an agreed relationship of a more enduring kind. During courtship, a couple get to know each other and decide if there will be an engagement or other such agreement. A courtship may be an informal and private matter between two people or may be a public affair, or a formal arrangement with family approval. Traditionally, in the case of a formal engagement, it has been perceived that it is the role of a male to actively “court” or “woo” a female, thus encouraging her to understand him and her receptiveness to a proposal of marriage.

In a fast fashion fast love society how long should one spend on courtship?

In the United Kingdom a poll of 3,000 engaged or married couples resulted in an average duration between first meeting and accepted proposal of marriage of 2 years and 11 months, with the women feeling ready to accept at an average of 2 years and 7 months. Regarding duration between proposal and wedding, the UK poll above gave an average of 2 years and 3 months

The average duration of courtship varies considerably throughout the world. Furthermore, there is vast individual variation between couples. Courtship may be completely omitted, as in cases of some arranged marriages where the couple do not meet before the wedding.

The best quote I ever heard on courtship

Darling  Do you keep a car after 10 years ! Of course not Darling Same with relationships Darling no wedding at 10 years you trade it in!

Lucky for Brad and Angelina they married this week at 9 years

This is one of the weddings the world has waited for, but were we expecting the graffiti veil printed with doodles and drawings by the six children. They were hand printed onto the longs veil by Atelier Versace tailor Luigi Massi who created the gown. Pictures were from moments of their life shared Eiffel tower, brad on a motorcycle , sharks planes teddy bears and words Dad and Mom
